Horse Trainer Apprenticeship

In my younger years when I was in high school I was a competitive diving coach where I taught kids and adults how to platform and springboard dive. I loved the sport and loved to compete but what gave me greater joy was to see my students succeed and do well at what they loved. This has always been apart of my life wanting to help others reach their goals in the things they enjoy. Without the help of some very key people in my life I would not have the knowledge of horses that I have now.

When I first began working with horses I was just kid from the city with a heart for horses and the country but had little experience. It was through great teachers like Roy and Heather Kelm of K5 ranch and Ron Anderson of Sylvan Crest Stock Farms who taught me the art of communicating to horses and how to transform a horse from wild and fearful to a trusting and willing partner.

I believe learning is a constant process and without it you cannot grow and become better at what you love

In my apprentice program it is my goal to pass on the knowledge I have learned through my own experiences as well as the lessons I have been taught by other great horses trainers. There are many people who have the heart for horses but do not have the necessary knowledge to progress with their horse in a safe manner.

Each year I work with different students who assist me in my training program as well as assist in running the horse program that I manage at Rivers Edge Camp www.riversedgecamp.org. The students learn how to start colts in a safe environment how to manage a large herd of horses, how to teach young students, lead trail rides and how to start their own equine business. Each apprentice has food and accommodation provided and experiences hard work and great laughs.

There are many places, unfortunately that take on apprentices and the student spends most of the time grooming and mucking out stalls which does teach you hard work and that job does need to be done.

That however is not the case in my program. I believe one of the best ways to learn is to be hands on and working with the colts and spending time in the saddle. Having said that the stalls still need to be cleaned, horses need to be groomed and fed but rest assured I will be right there doing that with you. It is my wish to invest in you and see you succeed in the industry.
